It is well understood that most diseases have underlying nutrition-based causes. One becomes out of balance and in a state of dis-harmony, a state of dis-ease, as nutritional imbalances manifest. These nutritional imbalances result in various biochemical imbalances like all the hormonal and neurotransmitter imbalances underlying much of what we call mental illness. It is usually that simple in most cases, in the overwhelming majority of cases in fact. 

Scientific arguments for genetic-based diseases are falling short as empirical evidence accumulates. The evidence from genetic-based research has provided even 

more support for the nutrition-based theory of disease. Genetic based medical research at Tufts University, as an example, has given rise to a new field of research and therapy called "nutri-genomics" a nutritionally-based approach to genetic disease. The research at Tufts clearly shows that certain nutrients and foods seem to show the most promise against certain, assumed, genetic diseases, and this approach is very promising indeed, as food for medicine always has been, unlike other so-called genetic approaches.
